Black Chicagoland will be featured at the Third Biennial Black Midwest Symposium: Adaptive Reuse: Reimagining Black Futures in the Midwest, which will take place October 18-19, 2024 at the Dayton Metro Library in Dayton, Ohio. The Black Midwest Initiative hosts a biennial symposium that features artists, activists, academics, and other community-involved people to discuss issues related to Black life in the Midwest.
The Black Midwest Initiative is a progressive collective of scholars, students, activists, organizers, and community-involved people who are committed to advocating for the lives of people of African descent as they are situated throughout the Midwest and Rust Belt regions of the United States. The Black Midwest Initiative is housed in and supported by Black Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago.
